Cross-Server Chat.

Post by GeeDave » September 10th, 2012, 10:22 pm

Two minor points!

Firstly, my (donators) colour is the same as "[Drumdevil's SMP]" chat that comes through, which makes it really hard to identify if there's a conversation happening on the other server.

Secondly, and I think a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but in my own opinion I think the cross-server chat is redundant, and just adds unnecessary clutter.

That is all.

Even if the cross-chat stays, which is fine if all agree, I'd like the colours changed if possible, so we can read from donators a bit better, and also the log-in/log-out colours are yellow... so it all gets a bit messy.

The chat system is shitty in Minecraft imo, it's unclear, too big letters making this potential awesome addon more of an annoyance rather than a fun collaboration.
Ideally one should be able to create and utilize various channels so one could chat in the channel they want.

Personally I'm not annoyed by it, and trust me, I get annoyed really fast. I sometimes like the companionship since my server is kinda silent.
On the other hand, it gives maxloader his peacetime back when he's playing on my server

Maybe it is possible to disable the [Drumdevil's SMP] prefix and change the color, that might be less confusing.

I don't mind disabling the addon all together if players don't like it.

Would there be a way to make it so you can see it, or turn it off?
You just lost the game.

I think me and Maxloader will investigate this matter further tomorrow.
In the meanwhile, also for my own benefit I found a simple mod that allows you to change the font and size of the chat and in-game menu's. I'm not suggesting this will justify the cross server chat though :P. But this is what I will be using from now on:

No, you see, it's ballas pink too. PROOF: http://taldiiatekkit.freeforums.org/
:D

The orange is like mod, and the yellow is the cross-server chat, so pink is really the only choice I can think of.

no. it's not ballas pink, it's ballas purple, because ballas purple is a direct reference to a game you've obviously never played.

On my server Max' server has aqua color and local chatname has green color, without the Maxloader's SMP prefix.

<Drumdevil> Like this if you talk on my server.
<Drumdevil> And like this if you talk on Max' SMP.
<Maxloader> Where is drum?
<Drumdevil> Here scrubnub!

I think this is WAY better than before, especially without the long prefix.

But on Max's, the ranks are those colors. There is also the purple we don't use too?

On drumdevil's server there are no rank colors.
There are only OP and normal players.

OP: RED
Normal: Green
Players from max's SMP: Blue
