Re: Rediculus bans
I believe they were claiming he was a nazi, and a racist, but not nazi in a literal sense. More likely they were just saying he was being an asshole so they banned him.
The soap, pick it up.
Re: Rediculus bans
Ban him wloll! you can do that now right? ban him for incorrect use of the forums, as well as being a nazi and a racist.

Oh, you must be mistaken. This is about Nazi, and Midi's apparent membership with them.
Yes, I did some research and apparently Midevele1 WAS in fact, a member of the Nazi party and served in the armed forces for the Waffen SS.
He will come up with plenty of denials and excuses like clameing he was not born yet, but you can clearly see him in this picture.
7 in from the left side, 43 back from the front. MIDE, clear as day.

Re: Rediculus bans
Actually i find this rather interesting.
As far as i know i'm the only one from a "Nazi-Country" on this Server, as there are no other Germans or Austrians on here.
So why does it seem like i am the only one finding this stuff pretty disturbing? Am i just soft-minded?
You know, we actually learn in school that it was the fault of our country that the biggest genozide in History happend, and it's quite disturbing enough that there are enough Rebells out here in Austria who just make fun of it. But actually...
I kinda get it if the dutch people make Jokes about it. The Netherlands were "victims" of the Nazis , so they are beeing self-ironic in SOME way or something like that.
But why actually do Americans do stuff like this? I'm just thinking loud here. The USA was the "Hero" in this particular part of History. The US reputation is F*ckd up enough at the moment. Why do americans (and i'm not speaking about this case here and about Pest, i'm talking about people i've seen all over the internet) take this one good, and fair victory from them, by joking about it?
Don't get me wrong here i'm not trying to say you all are lousy bastards for making Jokes about the National-Sozialsm, i'm actually interested in your opinion on this.

Re: Rediculus bans
Well this will probably make me sound more like a horrible person, but the way I see it we're not actually talking about the same kind of nazi's. There are the nazi's that actually existed in the past that did horrible things and needed to be stopped, and while it's important to remember them so that we can prevent things like the holocaust from happening in the future, it's disturbing to think of them constantly and is frankly just depressing.DreadsEye wrote:Actually i find this rather interesting.

but because our country was one of the heros in the case of WWII nazi's have become a sort of pop culture refrence. They, along side the Communist Russians (also a non funny topic we laugh about), have become our favorite bad guys. They're in our comic books, our movies, our fictional books, and especially our video games. Rarely do we reference what they did that made them the bad guys, because that's unpleasant and it's not fun or funny to think about. For the most part, we just play our games where we shoot them because they're bad guys and bad guys need to be shot to get the high score. none of it, apart from the name's nazi and hitler, really has anything to do with what actually happened during the Holocaust.
So the way I see it, we're making light of the nazi's we see in video games and literature that we put there to remember the great things our country did do.
Also as a side note, the internet is a bad place to note the actions of certian people and pass judgement on an entire country. there's a lot of idiots on the web doing a lot of stupid shit. and I realize I'm saying this just below a post above where I made light of Nazism, but that's partly an apology to you for making light of an issue that's still so serious. I promise we're not all like this in real life, last year I took a course studying the holocaust and the only jokes in that class were the ones told by our jewish teacher.
The soap, pick it up.

Re: Rediculus bans
Ah i do like that post of yours
Also, you make me feel bad about my lousy english. I'm really sorry, but the only people who learn less english in school then the austrians are the french. Or at least i'd think so.
This is actually kinda interesting. Of course the internet is not a place to judge people, yes i know that. But do you americans know how your reputation in Europe is like? Well thats the one thing.
Next, do you actually say Nazism? That's strange. Well the original word was National-Sozialismus, so national-socialsm. Even tough it had nothing to do with socialism at all.
I'm just interested in this matter because i am going to work in an Ex-Concentration Camp. Ok so this sounds absolutly terrible but if i just may explain this:
In Austria and Germany, some of the concentration camps were not totally destroyed. Of course they were opened up after the end of WW2, but some of the sites remained, and then went untouched over centuries, because noone actually wanted to believe what happend in there.
Now, they have become Memorials to the Nazi-Times in the country. Memorials might be the wrong word here but I can't seem to find the word for negativ-memorial, due to my lack of english skills. I hope you know what I mean.
So people go there, get a guide round the site, the guide explains what happend back then, and everyone is freakin glad they live in the 21st Century and they were not Jewish back then. I believe it is obligatory to go to one of this sites at least once in your school carreer with history class.
The whole thing shows: This happend back then. Don't repeat the mistake. Seriously, do not repeat the mistake, it was the worst thing that happend, possibly ever.
So, I will work on one of this sites as a guide (Where the first problem shows up, because the german word for "Guide" is the same as "Leader". It's Führer. Now how do I introduce myself?!),and I will probably have many many tourists or visitors from other countries there. So i want to know how do people from other countries actually handle this topic?
You know, i grew up with the knowledge of what happend, and there are actually laws here that forbidd to show off swastika in public and stuff like that. I just don't know how other people handle this.

Yeah I know of the origin of the word Nazi but over here It's never referred to as National-Socialism everyone just knows it as Nazi. We have neo-Nazi's here too :/ it's a sad fact. It's a political party of it's own so it get's an "ism" on the end.
I'm also aware of the concentration camp memorials (memorial is the right word). memorials, even in America, are often somber. We go to them to remember the people that died in a memorable way (either to protect our freedom, like in pearl harbor or a WWII memorial, or in horrible ways like the holocaust.) I've actually been to the Holocaust memorial at Dachau. it was an eye-opening experience, I think as a tourguide at one of those places you'll be doing good work

about how to introduce yourself though. I wouldn't recommend telling any Americans you're going to be their "Führer", even if it's just for the next couple of hours. I would just say guide, or Reiseleiter or something like that.
The soap, pick it up.

Re: Rediculus bans
NOT FUNNY! My great-grandfather died at a Nazi prison camp... DRUNK BASTARD FELL OUT OF HIS GUARD TOWER! BWAHAHAHA j/k.
I make jokes about everything, general defence mechanism I suppose. Never lose your sense of humor. If some bastard lobbed off my arm with a battleaxe, I'd probably make some " 'tis but a flesh would" comment before falling over and bleeding to death, useing any spare energy to comment on how the jokes on him cuz my blood is going to RUIN his shoes. I also like debate and prefer to play devils advocate. No debate has a bigger devil to advocate then argueing FOR the Nazis.
Never appologise for substandard english. We ignorant Americans rarely know ANY other languages and even I cant spell for crap... Pritty sure I misspelled "appologise" but I refuse to google the correct spelling.
We DO have "Neo-Nazis" here in the US but its really just troubled teenagers crying out for acceptance. the "Arian Brotherhood" (usualy in the form of prison gangs) is far more fitting of the title.
The WINNERS write the history books. Before you refer to America as an outright "hero" recount some of our less heroic deeds as well. I believe it was Hamsburg where US and Brittish forces took day/night shifts bombing the bejesus out of civilians in "an attempt to start an upriseing". We deliberately bombed the civilian population of Germany and that is an unforgiveable warcrime that should not be excused. Technicly Hitler was trying to unite the world under one nation... similur to hippie idealism really, and he DID to alot to help Germany prior to the war. Had it NOT been for the war (or certainly if he had WON it), he would likely been reguarded as one of the worlds greatest leaders. But again, this is just sideing with the underdog. I understand the attrocities commited under his command and do not at all support them.

Re: Rediculus bans
Oh I see what you did there.
You are right about a lot of things here, and of course the US bombed the shit out of lots of other countries. As I said, the US reputation in Europe is kinda like : "Oh i'm a dumb pale guy, i love macdonald's and i f*cking love shooting other people's legs of, to give them the FREEDOM of CRAWLING BENEATH MY TOES!"
So that's that.
But i have to correct you in one thing:
It's a common misunderstanding that Hitler brought up a lot of good things, and we are just ignoring them due to the crimes he commited.
Actually there are a lot of things like this. let me explain a bit:
1) Often, when i watch American TV i hear "Germany voted Hitler in". This is just plain wrong. Hitler's party did not take power by getting voted. Hitler tried to overthrow the gouvernment 2 times, he failed the first time, and succeeded the second time. The Party DID get a lot of votes, but they got into the gouvernment by force.
2) The Nazis did not actually build up a good economy. Germanys Economy was focused on the "Blitzkrieg" as soon as Hitler came to power. This of course meant that the weapon production had a nice time there, (altough the americans helped out a bit by selling a bazzilion Barrells of Oil to germany to power their tanks, so thanks for that) but the overall economy still sucked balls, and the employment rate was the lowest in germanys history.
3) One thing against my own country here: Austria was technically forced into joining germany, but practically the "Austrofaschismus" or "Austrian-fasicm" already was the leading force 3 years before that, and the people welcomed Hitler with open arms.
4) Hitler's leadership during the war was not exactly perfect, it was just pure propaganda. He was not "One of the greatest leaders of all times" He just was there, when people were desperate. A great Leader also is a great Tactican, and knows when it is better to retreat. Also a great Leader should not commit suicide, since this shows weakness, and doesn't give your followers any reason to continue worshipping you.
So that's some stuff there.
But i got out of context. I really justwanted to know how people from other countries handle this topic.

@dread Oh yes, did you hear about how he attempted to set the government building on fire? also
@pest, i think your grandfather killed my long lost dog fluffy when he landed on it D: and actually you got it wrong mate, i was 7 in from the left side, 44 back from the front!
and @dread again, the best thing you can do just try to get a kick out of it, and neo-nazi's are just whiney little bitches whom want attention, just ignore them. in fact if we hadn't got involved he would not have had a cause to blame the jews, so the "heros" arn't so heroic anyway. i believe in pure anarchy, i do not trust my government, they hide more shit from us then you will ever know (my worst punny joke ;D) and finally
PLEASE LOCK THIS TOPIC AND THROW AWAY THE KEY!!!!

Re: Rediculus bans
Actually why close this topic? i find this to be quite interesting
@Jakal: thats only one question O_o
Ok so i've only barely heard of this before, so i can't garantuee this, but i say NO
While it is true, that the Volkswagen has it's origins in Nazi Germany, it was not exactly Hitlers idea, it was just run by Nazis. Actually Hitler would be more likely to name it "Reichswagen" or something like that.
But the thing here is: like almost all cooperations that were founded in Germany at this time, it was obligatory for them to have some contact to the Nazis. If they didn't support Hitler, they'd get problems.
So yes, it was firm run by Nazis, but it was not directly Hitlers idea, or Himmlers idea or Göbbels idea or any of the "Big guys"''s idea.
I think it might be possible that they supported them tough, since it was the only car company in germany at that time, so that would make sense.
So I'm not an expert on this but there's another reason: People here would know about this. Seriously. Not for sure in Austria, but in Germany.
It is STILL complicated to handle things that were related to the Nazi times but did not actually cause any damage. Since , as i said, it is forbidden by law to reactivate Nazi idiology, there are often some cases that got quite complicated.
But if it was actually Hitlers IDEA to found a company for CARS (wich would not at all sound like him), it would not exist here anymore. Seriously, nobody would drive a VW, and many people do trust me. People in Germany are very picky about this.
So once again i'm not totally sure, but thats the stuff i know.

Re: Rediculus bans
Ok, that's interesting, thanks Dreads. yeah I know a little bit about the avoidance of all things formerly Nazi. I visited Dachau for 3 weeks and the family that hosted me told me that everyone having a baby goes to München to have their children because they don't want their baby to have Dachau on their birth certificate, simply because there was a concentration camp near dachau.
