Survival CTF [Has ended, join next time]
Ok so here’s my idea for an event I’d like to host only more organized this time.
Survival CTF, Two teams will tp to opposite sides of an island that has two blocks of wool on it on opposite sides. The teams have two days irl to locate their block of wool and build a fort around it. At a time on the third day when the most people can log back on a game of CTF will start. First team to get the other team’s block of wool back to their own fort wins.
If one block of wool seems like it’ll go too fast we can make it three blocks of wool and the teams have to get all six blocks to their own fort.
Rules:
1. You can’t bring anything with you to the island, Everything used in the CTF game will be mined from on the island or under it.
2. Attackers may not use Picks or lava, defenders may.
3. The warp names will be long to insure that respawning doesn’t happen too fast
4. defenders may not rebuild during the CTF part of the game.
5. Dead people’s stuff is fair game.
Max the first time I posted this you said you could use the map editor to make the island, if that offer is still open I’d like the island to be about 192x99 blocks but natural looking not really a rectangle. If that seems too big or too small just make it as big as you think will work best.
If anyone has suggestions please post them here and I’ll take them into consideration.

I actually really like this idea. Good structure, plus controlled PVP like this can be awesome. Standing on top of a tower with bow as a sentry is a cool thought.
Plus, I wrote some of the chapter in wiki-craft on traps and anti-grief sensors, so fun times XD

Im in, also i will help you construct this land.
You said you didnt want it to be rectangular, this is no problem.
We can just make an outline with dirt and i can use a fill command to fill the inside.

Thanks Max, that's going to help out big time. Just let me know anything I shout do to help get it done.
For the teams I was thinking we could either have team captains or assign people to the different teams as they sign up. If we do team captains it would be convenient if they already had some measure of authority so probably either a mod or an admin. What do you guys think? We could have Max and eddy be team captains if you guys want to.

Ok so thanks to Max and Sooneey the CTF arena is finished. change in plans though on the way we'll be playing, because of the size of the arena mining wont be allowed during the CTF game. Instead, each player will be allowed to bring whatever they can fit into their inv. Just one inv full though. no going back and forth.
Also Obsidian is not allowed.but everything else is ok

You can either attach them via this forum using the " upload attachments" option, or you can upload them to a host site such as imgur.com and use [img] tags

they are rather close but it might end up being a good thing, this is our first try with CTF so it might be better to try it out on a slightly smaller scale. also I think the close proximity will keep the game going at a quicker pace which should make it more exciting.
Keep in mind both teams will be building a fort around their flag that the attackers have to get through without pickaxes. being close isn't exactly going to make it easier.
EDIT: there is actually room to mine. so we will be going back to the original plan of not brining anything with you. we'll show up with empty invs and build our forts and fight as in the original plan.

So I had the Rules all typed up and my internet crashed and lost it
I'll try my best to replicate it. We've basically finished the arena, just fine tuning some things really and I feel like waiting for more people wont get us anywhere so I think we should set a time to start it. and let people join as like like until then.
Here's how it will go. The team captians will tp their team to their teams spawn/cloud. We'll all /sethome in the cloud so we'll spawn there when we die and then we'll jump out of the clouds and get to work mining and building.You can only build inside the cobble border outlined around your flag except for subtle traps which can be built outside. after one day of building we'll hopefully all get back online at the same time the next day and start to play CTF.
Rules for CTF:
1.You cant use obsidian in building your fort.
2. after CTF starts you can't place any more blocks until it's over.
3. breaking blocks is ok though.
4.defenders can use anything they mined from the island.
5. attackers can't use pickaxes.
and finally 6. (if it's ok with max) each team will be given 3 TNT to use as land mines in front of their fort or some sort of explosive trap.
PS: We just did a test run of it today which was pretty fun and we figured out some important details. So I'd like to do a few more small scale test runs so if you're online when we do it please join in and let me know how I can make sooneey make it better.

Edit: People have been commenting on how flat the island is. but i figure after setting off a few land mines on each side we wont have to worry about it being flat.
As for the time I think a Friday will work out best and because of the time difference between the US and Europe (about 5-8 hours I believe) I think the best times we can shoot for are morning and evening. what about 10 am here (GMT-7) which would be about 5 or 6 pm in and around Europe. Any objections, or better ideas? I'm open to any ideas anyone might have.

Ok everyone the CTF field is completely ready. And seeing as how it's impossible to try and get everyone online at the same time I figure we'll just start. So here's how it's going to work. I'll set two teams based on who's responded here in the forums. if people want to switch teams or whatever I'm fine with that as long as nobody feels like the teams are uneven, and we'll just add people as they come so be sure to tell people about it.
Max, I was wondering if we could use a special rank like the one you used for the dropping where we'll have no rights except for building rights basically, and also the ranks could be two different colors for each team? If that's alright I'd love to have it work like that. that way we could have home set in the "spawn clouds" and if you die you'll end up up there, but just if you die. I don't know if it's possible to have the admins keep certain rights like tping people and changing their ranks but if they can't we should probably keep them as red rather than lose those those rights.
The way this will work is some time very shortly after we figure out the team colors/ranks I'll open it up for the teams to start building. When you log on, talk to an admin who's involved with the ctf event and they'll teleport you to your teams spawn. set home there and the admin will change your name color to that of your team. then you can drop down from the flag and start building with your teammates. don't bring anything to the arena. I'm sure each team will have a skype conversation going as they work on their forts. after 24 hours irl we'll start to play capture the flag.

Ok. the build stage of CTF HAS STARTED. right now we're just in the build phase. you can join at any time during the build phase. and the actual CTF will start 24 hours from right... NOW! (time of this post) please read the rules above before joining.

team 1: scope_ and Jakal
team 2: Ace, wloll.
if you want to join pick a team (keep it even) and post what team you're on. hopefully by the time we start the actual CTF we'll have cooler team names. You'll need a mod or admin to tp you to the teams spawn/cloud, and once you get into the cloud /sethome in the cloud so if you die you respawn there. IF there aren't any mods or admins online when you join the game warp to ctfchest and sethome on the ground until someone with tp powers shows up. the warp is on team 2's side.

I have a new Idea:
It's a bit like "The Siege" that I have suggested once, where a group builds a fort and tries to hold off zombies (from spawners) for 2 nights, In a row. There are two "teams". Team People, and Team Zombie. The objective, as I said before, is to survive.
RULES:
-Building only during day.
-If you die, you die. No coming back and helping. This will add to the survival factor. When killed, you will be teleported to your home, which is connected to a viewing area.
-You must have a double door in the front of the fort, open for zombies to get in. Or, you could have some people leading zombies, who will destroy the door.
-All materials must be mined, or gathered inside the area.
-The fort must have a sacred shrine, where you will retreat when you think it is necessary. The shrine will be prebuilt, and it must be protected at all costs. If the zombies overpower the shrine, Team People loses.
-Team People also loses if all players are dead, or have left.
-Other mobs will spawn, so keep an eye out for creepers!

Also, instead of zombies from spawners, why don't we have a team of people play the zombies. zombies can only punch (or if that's too weak then have wooden swords) and if you're on team people and you die you become a zombie. If you're on team zombie and you die you stay a zombie. so team zombie gets bigger and bigger as the game goes. last person to stay a person wins?

because it would be so hard to kill someone with just punching when you're so outnumbered I think until there's like 5 people on the zombie team team human can only run away. no killing until then.
