im confused about when we start a new map. whats the point if all of our stuff we built will be gone? why not explore new areas and build there leave whats already built for anybody that wants to stay. also i wont be on until the new mods come out because it seems lyk there is a lot of problems with the downgrading so i will just wait.

The server has gone through a few maps now, most of which were in rapid succession toward the end of last year (soon after the server actually started). However, this wasn't Max just starting a new one on a whim. There were good reasons for each new map. For example, on the first map (at least the first one that I played on), everyone had spawnrights because the server software had not been perfected yet. After this was over, a new map started so we could play with more of an SMP feel (less gold/diamond blocks everywhere xD ) Later, when the Halloween Update came out, we started a new map to enjoy the additions. The current map was started after PvE and PVP began working in SMP, so we could start fresh with actual survival being implemented.

Each map change was voted on in the forums

Also, as for what we've built being saved, we have tried migrating parts of the map before (Castle City from the last map) and it didn't really works out great, because people wanted to build NEW stuff. However, Botra has been an ongoing project for the past few maps.

I see no reason to start a new map again, there are no fundemental changes to MC that require a restart.

If areas area too messy etc, we can always delete chunks (after its gone to a vote etc) to refresh areas, like when new mats like lapis came out :)

I want a new map, as well as don't. I don't really care, but it would be nice to refresh. If we did get a new one, it would be after everything is updated an Yeenoos is finished.

As everyone has said before we will know far in advance if Maxloader thinks it is needed to have a map change. Also all the previous maps are on the forums to download! So you can always see your last projects and even edit them into the new map if you beg maxloader enough ;)

However I believe the only reason we get a new map would be for a new type of map.
Eg: New map editor making HUGE land areas with a HUGE water areas between. Eg: More realistic islands. If that were possible I would ask for that, Imagine a REAL country. *Dribbles*


Also you guessed it Sooneey-Land, has a ring to it.
