Ok, minecraft has been updated and many people may update it to try out the new content. However to play on the sever we need to be v1.3, if you are not sure what version you are load up the game normally, if says "would you like to update" click no.

This tutorial is based on the newest game launcher, if you never got it yet you need to do that first!
Get the newest launcher here: http://www.minecraft.net/download.jsp
*Please note* The launcher is not the same as the game, the launcher is the part you see when you log in.

Image

That version number, if you have that on v 1.4 carry on reading. What we want to do now it delete everything minecraft related on your computer, however don't do this straight away without saving your singleplayer worlds. I will show you that.

Here is what you want to do.

Open the game and click on "Texture Packs".

Image

Image

This is what you should see, what we want is ".minecraft" so click on that up top.

Image

Mine could look different to yours, I installed some mods. However what we are after now is "saves".

Image

Copy it by right clicking the folder copying it. Then pasting it somewhere safe you will remember it in. (Eg: My Documents)

Now we've done that we want to get rid of minecraft all together.

Image

Click on Roaming and then you should come to this page. Right click the minecraft folder and then delete. Don't worry you've got your maps safe and sound.

Now we want to download the downgrade. Here is the url

--Removed--

Once you have downloaded that unzip it and open it up till you see ".minecraft"

Image

Now copy that ".minecraft" folder over to the "Roaming".

Once that is done open your new .minecraft folder and run "Minecraft (2)".

Once you log in the old Mojang colour schemed logo will pop up and then this.

Image

Click NOT NOW.

Image

Once that is done you can click on multiplayer and play!

If you want your save files from the singleplayer go back to where you put your previous file named "saves" and take it back to the ".minecraft" folder and paste it in.

All done hope that helps. Any questions please leave it here and I will try and answer asap.

Also people could be up on the chat who are willing to help.

Ok, yeah I did that because the minecraft.net download severs are always moody and 1/10 times can you actually download from it haha.

Sorry, I didn't want to sign up to any other upload/download site. It was the only one with upload and save feature.

Sweet looks good. Hotshot used it last night and got on the sever.

If you have upgraded to 1.4 and wish to downgrade to continue playing on Maxloader.nl, you can follow the steps above, but instead use this .Minecraft folder to revert to Beta 1.3_01

Remember to use the new Launcher and choose "Not Now" to avoid updating!

Also thanks to Sooneey for the tutorial above!

Not illegal you can not play without a username. This is only to downgrade.

First of all ^^that^^

Second, getting minecraft files is not very hard at all, you can literally just google it. I actually found a topic on the MC forums with a link to a downgrade specifically so people could play on servers.

Well from the TOS from minecraft.net:

The one major rule
Do not distribute anything I've made. This includes the client and the server software for the game. This also includes modified versions of anything I've made.

So bukkit is breaking the number one rule? They distribute their own version of the server and this is only for "helping and educating" purposes only.

notch should put up some kind of download archive then, also from old releases so people can download an old version if they wish.
alot of other software companies do this as well.
