Yes, I played and beat (or played ALOT of in the case of unending games) ALL these games, and Thousands of others. So I have clearly EARNED the ability to pick up and master games at a rapid pace. I've been doing it sense I was a little boy playing ROGUE and Loderunner on what we then consitered to be computers. Jamming away at Atari, Playing our Nintendo, Super Nintendo... Playstation... I've been playing games for TWICE as long as Many of you have been alive. My game time, in hours... might actualy exceed the lifetime of some of our server's residents.

This 'aint my first rodeo cowboy. I can ride that bull.

#1 best game of all time is X-COM UFO DEFENCE
--(Ancient game I played in Middle School, it's got a proper version comeing out soon that would do you better to play)
followed by Maniac Mansion
--(Should still be mildly fun without nastalgia, but will take you ages to figure out without a cheater walkthrough. "delux edition" is probably available for free download)

But my Favorite game is Red Orchestra.

Red Orchistra is a FPS WWII game that focuses on the Eastern Front of the war (Although Darkest Hour mod switches Russians out for US and British forces quite well)
It is Multi-player and there are servers that host a whopping 50 vs 50 battles. There are several game modes based on map but all are general varriants of point capture gameplay. By this I mean some maps have un-recappable points and some contain ALL un-recappable points makeing say... Germans defend agenst Russian attackers.
Weapons are VERY deadly and realistic in the game, and takeing a shot to the chest from a K98 standard issue rifle will be fatal. Although you can survive a shot to say the hand (that would probably make you drop your weapon though) or leg (that would slow you down consiterably). The game can therefore be camper friendly and hostile to newcomers. Machineguns are extremely deadly! A setup MG42 can make an area virtualy unaccessable to enemies so long as it's user can keep the firerate low and avoid overheating the barrel (would require a barrel change). Yet another realistic unique charictoristic of Red Orchistra is that teams can only have so many of each class based on map. Your team can only have say... one sniper, 2 MGs, 5 assaults, one commander (has access to limited number of artillery strikes and costs more tickets to respawn to discourage commander death) and the classes can choose between the available weapons also based on map IE MG42 or MG30, Bolt action or semiauto sniper rifle, MP40 or semiauto rifle or MP44 for assault and the like. All this makes for realistic WWII battles unseen in ANY other game. BUT THATS NOT ALL!

Red Orchistra also has Tanks and vehicles! Some maps are infantry only, some are pritty much all tanks (with several servers that ONLY play large tank maps), and some are mixed with either a tank or 2 supporting infantry or many tanks with infantry as well. Tank combat is unique in RO too. It is all 1st person. Sitting in the commander's seat, you would start in the hatch down position with view limited to viewports. Rolling the mouse scrollwheel up would open the hatch and allow better viewing, but exposes you to incomeing small arms fire or HE shells from enemy tanks. (I THINK it also slightly compromises the integrity of the hull to have the hatch open). Up again would bring up your binoculars to better spot enemy tanks at a distance (some maps can be HUGE). The commander cannot fire or drive the tank though... you'd need to switch to the driver's seat to drive or the gunner's seat to fire the main cannon or attached coaxle MG, usualy a seat for a front mounted MG as well. Ballistics for tanks are also realistic, accounting for sloped armour and such. No HP here, rounds can bounce off the hull and do nothing, or penitrate the engine and make your tank immobile. Reload times are spacific to the tank and SEVERAL tanks and vehicles are available for even the un-modded game. Pz3, several varriations of Pz4, Tigers, Panthers... T34, T78, IS, T85... Half tracks... Tank Destroyer Stugs... Maps can add vehicles on their own to have verriants on vehicles and infantry can take on tanks with Panzerfousts. Maps can layout weps for pickup by classes that dont start with them (tanks maps generaly have AT classes with AT rifles, Panzerfousts, or satchel charges that do the job agenst unwatchfull tankers).

The game is made to give individual maps TONS of control over the game, makeing community MAPS able to make unique experiences without mods. The game is a fantastic FPS with realism and varriety. Think Battlefield with realism and requireing skill (though minus airpower :( ) and your almost there.

It's the details that really make the game great. Little things like the ability to run whyle ducked OR standing, Being able to steady your weapon agenst any surface for added accuracy, and the makers even studied the way soldures of each nation were trained to run with their weapons to make the enemy more easily identified over distance. Also, the weapon acts like a floating crosshair minus the crosshair if your not looking down the sights, makeing hip fireing as inaccurate as it SHOULD be. Also the things they DIDNT add, like derp icons over the heads of troops to identify their team... You better figure it out BEFORE you fire, cuz killing friendly troops generaly gets you kicked for the duration of the battle on the 3rd unforgiven offence and is VERY easy to do with 1 shot kills and MG bursts.

The game started out as a mod that won the "Make Something Unreal" contest with the Unreal 3 engine, winning them a lisense that they promptly used to create a proper game. Red Orchestra 2 is out and going strong (with several recent updates that hopefully fixed much) but is a slightly different beast and as such, will never hold my heart like the original.

Where do you get the time to write essays on games you play?
You just lost the game.

No... but seriously... how do you afford so much time to play so many games?

Do you still play lots of games, or just a select few at a time.

I can barely handle two games these days, Minecraft and my Xbox game-de-jour (Currently Assassin's Creed Revelations).

Let me tell you boys, don't plan on playing lots and lots of games once you're married. I've got a baby on the way in August, and I imagine I'll have even less time then.

It IS a common argument with the misses, but I made clear from the start that I play alot of games... it's what I do with my free time. "Video Games are my anti-drug" as the commercial would go. My gameing time IS reduced greatly (specialy non-casual games) due to kids, but after bedtime is fine.

I dont play many at once. I currently divide my gameing time between minecraft and world of tanks, with occasional bouts of whatever else. Other games that come into focus with take me away from one or both of those.
