1.8 Ocean Dropping

This is a more advanced dropping; it plops you directly in the middle of a 1.8 ocean!
The goal is the same: to get back to civilization.
The island you will start on is fairly abundant with materials, so make sure to stock up with plenty.
As with the dropping, if you die, you've failed the event.
The winner will get a diamond block, and a bunch of random stuff.

NOTE* This event may span an entire/multiple days.
NOTE** Randomly generated structures do not count as civilization.

Question... if one were to craft a compass, where would it point? I'm assuming the home/spawn/warps would be disabled?

Also, I don't think I can participate as I know where the island is, and which direction to head in to hit civilisation quickest.

Compasses point toward spawn, and there might be a way to get this to work...

Well, I missed out on the original dropping so I'd be glad to be in this event.

The original dropping was fun however somebody needs to be able to give pack powers the whole time people are on when i did the first one i made it to the pestival and wasnt able to do anything because no admins were on. Also to make it more of a challenge i think compasses should be banned. Also if i were you i would set up a group of about 4 people to go at once so you will have better survival chances. However how will this affect the reward? will everybody that makes it back get a diamond block or just the first person. Where will this diamond block come from? It most likely wont be spawned for personal use so it would have to come from somebody's vault. If i am on during the time of the dropping i might be able to supervise and give back rights (if i am given the ability to for the time) or we could somehow contact an admin when we have finished and they will get back on and give rights back.

The diamond block and other things will be of my own stock, and I wouldn't want to ban the compass, because the distance from the island to spawn is over 10k-30k+ blocks from spawn. Might get it moved closer though.

w/o compass, you would just be blindly wondering in a random direction...

Exactly! make people guess the directions 4 man groups to go north south east and west use your minecraft knowledge to tell u if you are going the right way (1 block cacti, see pre 1.8 territory) we dont want everybody to win do we? It will just be a race back to spawn if u have a compass.

Well I don't really care about the rules, as long as I'm in the event. I am also happy to supply diamonds, seeing as that i have way to many.

I don't think this would do so well if someone is able to get a compass and a boat, because with those two items its not going to take long to get back to civilizaiton

One more problem...there's the real time map...that will have you to civilisation in no time at all

Solution: hide everyone who is in the event from the realtime map. It can be done through commands.

@wloll trust me, you WILL need a boat. Otherwise, people will probably get too bored, and give up. And also, anybody who needs to AFK will die at the bottom of the ocean.
