Thanks for the good feedback!
Dreadseye, please don't hold back on the roadbuilding, I certainly want to do stuff other than building roads, and you wouldn't believe how time-consuming it is, especially with half cobbles..
I intend to go off a little way further on the red line down to the bottom ...

Re: Trunk road from Castle Town to the SW
Half stones, guys!
It's worth the pain, the visual effect is really good and you get progressive gradients.
Cheers,
Jake

I'm happy to limit my building of the road like this if you want me to, by the way. It's just suggestions.

Re: Trunk road from Castle Town to the SW
Well, I was thinking that trunk roads could be cobbled, as in the old roman style, and branch and minor roads could be gravel. That way you know if you are on a main road vs. a track.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Jake

Re: Trunk road from Castle Town to the SW
Ahh, that's unfortunate. I should have thought of that before I started. I've been making it from half-height cobbles, because you can build more gradual changes into the road relief as it rises and falls, which means that you don't have to jump to traverse the road and well, it just looks more ...

Trunk road from Castle Town to the SW

Re: New Oblique Angle shot!
Awesome! I can see my house from here (that square of torches and stuff east along the coast from the ship). BTW, if thats in the wrong place, let me know. I do plan to run a road past it along the coast and off into the wilderness.

Server configuration
Just a thought. Browsing around various forum posts on the big minecraft forums, I note that some servers are making use of a ram drive to improve performance for larger numbers of players.
Is this something that our server already has?
Is it something that is worth testing (I don't know what the ...

Re: New map? -Poll-
I think a new map is great for us new guys. I'd prefer if it didn't become too tightly regulated. It's nice to go off into the wilderness and just build whatever comes to mind!
